Abstract
Objective To estimate the vaccination coverage of national immunization Programme among children in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, and understand the factors affecting timely vaccination. Methods Face to face vaccination certificate and record checking was conducted among children selected by multi stage random sampling in Taizhou. Results A total of 545 children, who were born from 1 January 2008 to 31August 2010, were surveyed in 61 villages in 18 townships of 9 counties in Taizhou. The vaccination coverage was 98.0% for BCG, 99.3% for OPV, 99.5% for DPT, 98.2% for HBV (the 1st dose) and 78.5% for MV (the 1st dose). The average full vaccination coverage of all 5 vaccines was 96.7%. Conclusion The vaccination coverage of national immunization programme in children was relatively high in Taizhou. The most common reason for unqualified vaccination was delayed or schedule ahead immunization, followed by irregular vaccination interval.
