Abstract
Objective To understand the social and demographic characteristics of individuals receiving HIV voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) in Fengtai district in 2012 and HIV infection status among them, and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS. Methods The descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the data of VCT performed in Fengtai in 2012. Results Of 2152 subjects surveyed, 2130 received VCT service, with the ratio of males to females of 1:1.4, and 81.1% of them were aged 20-40 years. Counseling was mainly about sex contact, accounting for 40.3%. Fifty six HIV infections were detected (2.6%), most infections were transmitted through homosexual contact (85.7%). Conclusion Homosexual contact was the major HIV transmission route in VCT clinics' visitors in Fengtai. It is necessary to strengthen the prevention and control of AIDS among MSM.
