Survey of echinococcosis prevalence in area neigbouring Tibet in Yunnan

  • Objective To understand the prevalence status of echinococcosis in the area neigbouring Tibet in Yunnan province and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and treatment of echinococcosis. Methods The echinococcosis case record in hospitals in these areas were analyzed and field survey was condcuted in the places where echinococcosis cases occurred. The suspected cases in these areas were screened with B ultrasound detection and blood samples were taken from them for echinococcosis antibody detection with ELISA. The registering of domestic dogs, goats and cattle was conducted and dog stool samples were collected for echinococcosis antigen detection with ELISA. The livestock in slaught houses were checked, and samples were taken from these livestock for pathgen detection. Results A total of 35 echinococcosis cases were recorded in hospitals in Dali, Diqing and Lijiang prefectures. Four echinococcosis cases were detected in field survey with B ultrasound detection and serum antibody detection. The sero-antibody positive rate of human ranged from 8.70% to 42.10%(average 20.88%). The antigen positive rate in dog stool samples was 1.24%(0.44%-1.82%). Conclusion The result indicated that echinococcosis might spreaed at low level in Diqing, Lijiang and Dali, an area neighbouring Tibet, in Yunnan province.
