Seroepidemiology of viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases in floating pregnant women in Ruian, Zhejiang

  • Objective To understand the prevalence of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis and HIV infection in floating pregnant women in Rui'an, Zhejiang and provide evidence for the development of strategy for floating pregnant women management. Methods HBsAg, anti-HCV, syphilis antibody and anti-HIV were detected for 16 209 floating pregnant women hospitalized for delivering from January 2011 to September 2013. Results Among the 16 209 pregnant women, 1038 were HBsAg positive (6.40%), 39 were HCV positive (0.24%), 133 were positive for syphilis antibody (0.82%) and 8 were HIV positive (0.05%). Conclusion HBV infection rate was high in floating pregnant women in Rui'an, and syphilis positive rate in these pregnant women, even in younger group, was obviously higher than in local pregnant women. It is necessary to take active intervention and prevention measures for the health of the newborns
