Detection of novel tick-borne Bunyavirus in Shenyang

  • Objective To understand the carriage of novel Bunyavirus in ticks in mountain and forest areas around Shenyang and provide scientific evidence for the prevention of fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome in Shenyang. Methods RT-PCR was performed to detect 1989 ticks collected in Maer mountain, Qipan mountain and the area bordering Inner Mongolia from April to September 2012. Results By sequence analysis and homologous comparison, it was conclude that the ticks detected in Shenyang belonged to Haemaphysalis longicornis and was negative for novel Bunyavirus. Conclusion The ticks in mountain and forest areas around Shenyang were Haemaphysalis longicornis which were negative for Bunyavirus. Further study is needed to determine whether the natural focus of novel Bunyavirus exists in Shengyang or not and novel Bunyavirus surveillance system should be established too.
