Abstract
Objective To provide the reference for rabies prevention and control in China. Methods Rabies incidence and disease burden in 2012 in China were analyzed for years of life lost (YLL), years lived with disability (YLD) and disability-adjusted life year (DALY) based on the Excel template designed by WHO. Results The reported rabies case number was 1421 and the death number was 1362 in China in 2012. Up to 92.73% of the cases were distributed in rural areas. The YLL was 25 871 person-year, YLD was 3229 person-year, DALY was 29 010 person-year and the DALY intensity was 0.022 person-year‰. The DALY in males (21 261) was 2.74 times higher than that in females. The DALY was highest in age group 45-59 years (8458) and the DALY intensity in children aged th in 8 communicable diseases. Conclusion The disease burdens caused by rabies are heavy in males, children and people aged 45-59 years, it is necessary to strengthen the prevention and control of rabies in these populations.
