Epidemiology of syphilis in Diaobingshan, Liaoning, 2005-2013

Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of syphilis in Diaobingshan, Liaoning province from 2005 to 2013 and provide evidences for the development of prevention and control strategies. Methods The incidence data of syphilis in Diaobingshan from 2005-2013 were collected from national disease reporting information system to establish an Excel database. All the data were verified item by item. Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of laboratory conformed syphilis cases. Results A total of 602 syphilis cases were reported with an average annual incidence of 27.83/lakh. The incidence increased year by year (χ2=414.21, PConclusion The incidence of syphilis in Diaobingshan increased year by year. It is necessary to strengthen the prevention and treatment in rural-urban fringe zone; and among the unemployed/household servants and farmers, conduct the standard diagnosis and improve the reporting quality.
