Infection status and genotype distribution of human papilloma virus in women with cervicitis in Zhoushan, Zhejiang

  • Objective To understand the infection status and genotype distribution of human papilloma virus (HPV) in women with cervicitis in Zhoushan hospital and provide evidence for the prevention and control of HPV infection among local women. Methods Cervical exfoliated cell samples were collected from 997 women with cervicitis in Zhoushan hospital and the distribution of the HPV genotype were tested with flow fluorescence hybridization technique. Results Among the 997 women, 220 were detected to be HPV positive (22.0%). The detection rates of high risk genotypes, low risk genotypes and co infections were 13.8% (138/997), 0.4% (4/997) and 7.8% (78/997), respectively. Nineteen HPV genotypes were detected among all the cases, The top five high risk genotypes were HPV52, accounting for 8.4% (84/997), HPV58, accounting for 4.9% (49/997), HPV16, accounting for 3.3% (33/997), HPV18, accounting for 2.2% (22/997) and HPV33, accounting for 1.9% (19/997) and the detection rate of low risk genotype HPV6 was highest (1.6%, 16/997). Signal genotype infection was found in 14.2% of the women (142/997) and multi genotype infection was found in 7.8% of the women (78/997). The prevalence of HPV infection varied significantly with age, the prevalence in age group 31-40 years was highest (8.1%, 81/997). Conclusion Genotype and age specific differences in HPV infection were found in Zhoushan compared with other areas.
