Surveillance for pulmonary tuberculosis in Jiangshan, Zhejiang, 2004-2013

  • Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics and trend of tuberculosis (TB) in Jiangshan, Zhejiang province, and provide evidence for the prevention and control of TB. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of TB in Jiangshan from 2004 to 2013. Results A total of 5521 TB cases were reported from 2004 to 2013, including 2241 smear-positive cases, 3022 smear-negative cases, 38 deaths and 258 others. The annual average incidence was 110.37/lakh, the annual average registering rate of smear-positive cases was 44.80/lakh and the annual average case fatality rate was 0.69%. The TB incidence had no obvious seasonality. The male to female ratio of the cases was 2.65:1; The majority of the cases were aged 50-79 years, accounting for 58.30%; The cases in farmers accounted for the highest proportion (83.30%), followed by that in students. Conclusion During 2004-2013, the overall incidence of TB was in decline in Jiangshan. It is necessary to strengthen the TB prevention and control of TB in middle aged and old people in rural area.
