Surveillance for death causes in residents in Youyang Tujia/Miao autonomous county, Chongqing,2013

Objective To understand the constituent of death causes and the incidence trend of related diseases, and provide evidence for the prevention and control of diseases. Methods Statistical analysis was conducted on the death data from death cause registry system with software DeathReg. Results The crude death rate was 560.82/lakh in Youyang in 2013. The death rate in males was 664.16/lakh and the death rate in females was 452.11/lakh. The overall life expectancy was 75.75 years. The life expectancy in males was 72.32 years and the life expectancy in females was 76.89 years. The first 5 leading death causes were circulatory disease, respiratory system disease, tumor, injury/poisoning and digestive system disease, and the related death rates were 255.10/lakh, 101.56/lakh, 90.83/lakh, 36.47/lakh and 30.84/lakh, respectively. Conclusion Chronic non communicable diseases are major risk to people's health in Youyang, it is necessary to strengthen the health education and intervention in high risk group to reduce the incidence and death rate of chronic non communicable diseases.
