Injury death in old population in Jinhua, Zhejiang, 2006-2013

Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics and incidence trend of injury death in old population in Jinhua and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of injury in this population. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the death data in people aged 60 years in Jinhua from 2006 to 2013. Results The average mortality of injury in old population was 325.75/lakh (342.97/lakh in males and 309.29/lakh in females). The injury death accounted for 8.48% of all deaths. The injury mortality in old population was higher in rural area (351.06/lakh) than in urban area (261.55/lakh).The injury mortality increased with age.Fall was the leading cause of injury in old population, the mortality of injury caused by fall was 128.47/lakh and the injury death caused by fall accounted for 39.44% of all injury death. Conclusion Injury has become serious problem affecting the health and life of old population in Jinhua. The prevention and control of injury should be strengthened in this population.
