Surveillance for adverse events following immunization in Guangxi,2013

  • Objective To understand the incidence pattern of adverse events following immunization(AEFI) in Guangxi,2013,and evaluate the performance of local AEFI surveillance system. Methods The incidence data of AEFI in Guangxi in 2013 were collected through national AEFI reporting information system, and descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the data collected. Results A total of 1050 AEFI were reported in Guangxi in 2013, which occurred in all 113 counties(district) in Guangxi. The proportion of AEFI reported within 48 hours was 95.62%, and the proportion of AEFI investigated within 48 hours was 98.98%. The male to female ratio of the cases was 1.71:1. According to the total vaccination doses in Guangxi in 2013, the overall AEFI incidence was 4.18 per 100 000 doses, the mild AEFI incidence was 4.07 per 100 000 doses, the estimated severe AEFI incidence was 0.11 per 100 000 doses, and the incidence of rare vaccination reaction was 1.50 per 100 000 doses. The main clinical manifestations of rare vaccination reactions were allergic rash, BCG lymphadenitis. Up to 98.67% of AFEI were cured or mitigated. Conclusion The AFEI surveillance system performed well in Guangxi, but it is necessary to strengthen the cause analysis, classification and treatment of AFEI in order to ensure AFEI surveillance quality.
