Epidemiological survey of an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis caused by norovirus G typeⅡ.7 in primary school in Beijing

  • An outbreak of acute gastroenteritis occurred in a primary school in Dongcheng district in Beijing. Field epidemiological survey was conducted to identify the pathogen and risk factors by detecting cases' stool samples and environment samples. The outbreak lasted for 3 days, affecting 8 classes and involving 51 cases. The attack rate was 13.5%. Norovirus was detected in 8 of 9 stool samples (88.9%) and norovirus was also detected in the smears of household hand washing sink and toilet of index case. The gene sequencing indicated that the pathogen belonged to norovirus G typeⅡ.7.
