Death causes of urban residents in Jinzhou, Liaoning,2013

  • Objective To understand the death pattern in urban residents in Jinzhou, Liaoning province, and provide evidence for the prevention and control of disease. Methods The death causes were classified according to the ICD-10 and the mortality was standardized according to population age structure obtained by national census in 2000. The mortality rates,the standardized mortality rates and constituents of major death causes were calculated and analyzed statistically. Results The total mortality rate of urban residents was 716.07/lakh in Jinzhou (837.55/lakh in males and 599.16/lakh in females), the mortality rate in males was higher than in females. The first 5 death causes were circulatory system disease, malignant tumor, respiratory disease, injury and digestive disease. The life expectancy of urban residents was 78.20 years (75.95 years in males and 80.55 years in females), and the life expectancy in females was higher than that in males. Conclusion Circulatory system disease, malignant tumor and respiratory system disease were the major death causes. It is considerable to strengthen the prevention and control non-communicable disease, such as circulatory system diseases and malignant tumor.
