Prevalence of hypertension complicated with diabetes and risk factors among rural residents in Wuxing of Huzhou, Zhejiang

  • Objective To investigate the prevalence of hypertension complicated with diabetes and risk factors among rural residents in Wuxing district of Huzhou, Zhejiang province,and provide scientific evidence for developing prevention and control strategies. Methods Two stage random sampling method was used to select subjects in rural area in Wuxing. The questionnaire survey, physical examination and laboratory tests were conducted among the subjects. The subjects with hypertension and diabetes were used as the case group,and the subjects with only hypertension were used as control group. Results The prevalence and complex weighted computation prevalence of hypertension,diabetes and hypertension complicated with diabetes were 23.76%, 5.98%, 3.17% and 14.21%, 3.78%, 1.81% respectively. The prevalence of diabetes in hypertension patients and the prevalence of hypertension in diabetes patients were 13.33% and 52.96%. The prevalence of hypertension complicated with diabetes in females was higher than that in males, and was positively correlated with the age and negatively correlated with the educational level. The increase in the prevalence of hypertension complicated diabetes was obvious than that of hypertension and diabetes in age group 55 year. Logistic regression analysis showed that blood sugar level, family history of diabetes, BMI and cholesterol level were risk factors. Conclusion More attention should be paid to prevention and control of hypertension, diabetes and hypertension complicated with diabetes in rural areas. Targeted health education should be conduced. For hypertension patients, it is necessary to pay attention to blood pressure and BMI control,blood glucose level and cholesterol level monitoring. Integrated prevention and treatment of hypertension complicated with diabetes should be strengthened.
