Study on phenotype and molecular characteristics of lactose-fermenting Salmonella typhimurium isolated from one diarrhea case

  • Objective To understand the drug resistant phenotype and molecular characteristics of the first isoalted lactose-fermenting Salmonella typhimurium strain from one diarrhea case and optimize the detection. Methods Biochemistry identification, serotype identification, disk diffusion test and pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) were condcuted to identify the biochemical characteristics, serotype, drug resistant phenotype and molecular characteristics of the strain respectively in network reference laboratory. Results The phenotype characteristics of the strain were consistent with the phenotype characteristics of the Salmonella typhimurium, the drug resistant phenotype was multi drug resistance (MDR), the molecule type was identified as a new type through the comparison of PFGE patten of the strain with that in local databases and the genetic characteristics of the strain were consistent with local circulating clone. Conclusion The identification of lactose-fermenting Salmonella typhimurium is of great importance for the diagnosis and treatment of communicable diseases, improvement of network reference laboratory capcity and explaination of biodiversity in genetic evolution of intestinal bacterial flora.
