Analysis on varicella vaccination status in children aged 3-10 years in Hangzhou, 2015

  • Objective To understand the performance of varicella vaccination in children in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. Methods The varicella vaccination data in children born during 2005-2012 (aged 3-10 years) was collected from Zhejiang Provincial Immunization Program Information Management System, and a descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted. Results A total of 665 288 children were born during 2005-2012, and the varicella vaccination rate was 85.78%. The vaccination rate was 85.72% in boys and 85.84% in girls (P=0.087). The vaccination rate in children aged 3 to 10 years showed an increasing trend (P 0.001). The vaccinated rate in local children was 85.80%, and the rate in migrant children was 85.74% (P=0.51). The differences in the vaccination rate among local children and among migrant children had statistical significance (P 0.001). The vaccination rates in children in old districts, new districts and counties were 89.23%, 84.17% and 82.78% respectively. The proportion of children vaccinated within 12-18 months after birth increased from 36.96% in 2005 to 80.33% in 2012 (P 0.001). Conclusion Timely varicella vaccination had been conducted for children in Hangzhou, and the vaccination rate was high. It is necessary to keep the high vaccination rate for the prevention and control of varicella.
