Investigation of an outbreak of measles in adults in Beijing, 2014

  • On 15 July 2014, a measles outbreak was reported in a real-estate medium company in Beijing. A total of 64 cases occurred in the outbreak, the attack rate was 7.62% (64/840). All the cases were the employees of the company. The outbreak lasted from 30 June to 18 July, affecting 19 of 23 branch stores. The results of laboratory detection showed that the pathogen was measles virus type H1. The survey results suggested that the cause of the outbreak might be the common exposure to the index case in a company meeting, indicating that measles is prone to transmit in susceptible crowd and comprehensive prevention and control measures are effective ways to control the outbreak.
