Epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of injury death in Wenzhou,2010-2014

Objective To understand epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of injury death in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, during 2010-2014. Methods The data of death surveillance in residents in Wenzhou during this period were classified according to ICD-10,the mortality,death cause constituent and death cause rank were calculated, and the mortality trend was evaluated by using year estimated change percentage (EAPC). The years of potential life lost (YPLL), YPLL rate, the potential work loss years (WYPLL), WYPLL rate and potential economic loss (PEL) were calculated. Results The average mortality rate of injury was 42.54/100 000 in residents in Wenzhou during 2010-2014,and the male and female mortality rates were 50.37/100 000 and 34.11/100 000, respectively The leading death causes in age groups 0 year, 1-14 years 15-64 years, 65 years were mechanical asphyxia, drowning, traffic accident and accidental fall, respectively. The mortality rate of deaths caused by trafficaccident, other unintentional accidents and suicidedeclined obviously, but the changes in the mortality rate of fall, drowning and non-motor vehicle traffic accident were not obvious. During 2010-2014,the overall YPLL of injury death was 239 382 person years, the WYPLL was 182 350 person years,the PEL caused by injury death was 8 323 146 900 yuan (RMB). Conclusion Injury has become one of the major death causes and caused heavy death burden in Wenzhou.Injury death showed a downward trend, but the trends of different injury deaths varied.The prevention and control should be conducted according to the characteristics of different injury deaths in Wenzhou.
