Investigation of a mycoplasma pneumoniae caused outbreak in a hospital

  • In October, 2014, fever, cough and pneumonia developed in some nurses in the nephrology department of a hospital in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. A total of 15 patients were identified, among them 6 were mycoplasma pneumoniae positive. Retrospective cohort analysis indicated that night shift (RR=11.7, 95% CI: 1.1-154.1), nursing shift (RR=44.0, 95% CI: 2.6-2 120.6) were the risk factors for the mycoplasma pneumonia infection in this outbreak. The outbreak was very likely to be caused by close contact with suspected hospitalized patients. It is necessary to improve the awareness of self-protection in medical staff.
