Intrauterine virus infection and birth defects

  • In recent years,birth defects have become a prominent public health problem.Intrauterine infection is one of the important cause of birth defects,especially virus infections.Understanding the pathogenic mechanism of the virus pathogens is helpful for the effective prevention and treatment to prevent the change of proper fetal development,reduce the rate of premature delivery and improve the survival rate.This review summarizes the influence of intrauterine infection of virus with teratogenic activity on fetal development,short-term and long-term outcomes of neonates affected,characteristics of virus transmission,laboratory detection methods and main prevention measures to improve the awareness of the public to take effective measures for the purpose of reducing the birth defects caused by intrauterine virus infection.
