Epidemiological investigation of an outbreak of brucellosis caused by drinking of unpasteurized ewe's milk in Hezhou of Guangxi

  • Objective To understand the etiology of a human brucellosis outbreak in Hezhou of Guangxi autonomous region in 2016, and provide evidence for the prevention and control of brucellosis epidemic. Methods After case study, epidemiological investigation and laboratory test, descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted. Results A total of 122 confirmed brucellosis cases and 19 latent infections were reported in this outbreak. One Brucella strain was isolated, which was identified as Brucella melitensis type 3, and the genotype of MLVA8 of this strain was 42. Conclusion The patients' clinical symptoms and signs, epidemiological investigation and laboratory test results indicated that this outbreak of human brucellosis in Hezhou was caused by the drinking of unpasteurized ewe's milk.
