An epidemiological analysis on brucellosis in Shaoxing, Zhejiang,2005-2015

  • Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of human brucellosis in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of brucellosis. Methods Epidemiologic analysis was conducted by using the surveillance data of brucellosis in Shaoxing from 2005 to 2015. Results A total of 132 cases of human brucellosis were diagnosed in Shaoxing during this period, the annual incidence ranged from 0.05/100 000 to 0.54/100 000, the incidence in males was significantly higher than that in females (2=23.2,P0.01). Most patients were aged 41-60 years (86 cases, 65.15%). The cases mainly occurred in farmers, workers who were engaged in sheep slaughtering, trading, raising, transportation and processing, accounting for 80.30%. The incidence peak was during March-August, and 71.21% of the cases occurred during this period. Patients from Xiaoyue, Ganlin and Songxia townships accounted for 77.27% of the total. The average interval between onset and diagnosis was (50.525.07) days. Conclusion In Shaoxing, the incidence of brucellosis epidemic is in increase. It is necessary to strengthen the control of infection sources and health education in population at high risk.
