Abstract
Objective To explore the characteristics of injury and service needs of injury prevention in physical disabled persons. Methods A survey by using self-designed questionnaire of injury epidemiology was conducted in physical disabled persons in Xinjing township of Changning district, Shanghai. Results A total of 1 199 questionnaires were returned. The response rate was 99.58%. The overall incidence of injury in physical disabled persons was 31.61%. The incidence of falls was highest (19.43%), and the incidence of fall in the elderly ( 80 years) reached 34.07%. The incidences of injury and fall were higher in individuals with lower extremity disability than in individuals without lower extremity disability (2=6.342, P=0.012; 2=8.839,P=0.003). The physical disabled persons who had more injuries needed more injury prevention services, such as handrails installation, safety assessment of crutch using, visual acuity examination and household safety assessment. Conclusion Physical disabled persons are more likely to suffer from to injury, especially fall, and they have more demands for injury prevention services.
