Analysis on prevalence of anxiety and related risk factors in road workers in plateau area

  • Objective To understand the anxiety state of road workers and related risk factors in plateau area Methods Anxiety degree was measured using Hamilton Anxiety Scale in 920 road builders. Results A total of 114 cases of anxiety were found from 920 road workers, and the total prevalence was 12.39%.The prevalence of anxiety was 8.57%, 9.06% and 20.35% respectively among road workers working at altitude level 2 000 m, 3 000 m and 4 000 m. The result of 2 test showed that the differences in anxiety prevalence in the workers at different altitude levels were significant (2=24.13, P0.01). The anxiety prevalence was highest in workers with working-age of 4 years (16.82%) compared with other working age groups, and the difference was significant (2=16.08,P0.01). The differences in anxiety degree was significant among different age groups (2=9.99, P0.05).Conclusion Age and altitude level were the influencing factors for anxiety prevalence among road workers, so we must attach importance to the mental health of workers with older age working at high altitude level area, help them improve their physical and mental health, and take action to reduce the degree of anxiety of workers.
