Epidemiology of hand,foot and mouth disease in Huadu Maternal and Child Health Care Center in Guangzhou,2012-2016

Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in Huadu Maternal and Child Health Care Center in Guangzhou, and provide evidence for HFMD prevention and control. Methods The surveillance data of HFMD in Huadu Maternal and Child Health Care Center from 2012 to 2016 were analyzed with Excel 2007 and SPSS 13.0 software for data analysis and chart production. Rate or composition ratio was compared in 2 test,with P0.05 for the difference was statistically significant. Results A total of 21 768 HFMD cases were reported during 2012-2016,including 30 severe cases and 4 deaths,in Huadu Maternal and Child Health Care Center during this period,ranking first in reported case numbers of notifiable communicable diseases. The annual incidence peak occurred during May-July. Most HFMD cases were children under 5 years old,especially the children aged 1-3 years,and more cases occurred in males than in females. Predominant pathogen varied with year. The severe cases and deaths were all caused by Enterovirus 71 (EV71). Conclusion The incidence of HFMD was high in Huadu district in recent years,and it is necessary to strengthen the health education in rural-urban fringe zone and in floating population for the prevention and control of HFMD.
