Abstract
Objective To understand the infection status of Sparganum mansoni in frogs and snakes and awareness of related knowledge in local residents in Tongxiang,Zhejiang province, and provide evidence for the human infection of S. mansoni. Methods During 2016-2017,a survey was conducted in 10 townships in Tongxiang, wild frogs and snakes captured and bullfrog raised were dissected to detect S. mansoni. Results A total of 521 wild frogs were captured, the overall infection rate of S. mansoni was 11.71%,the differences in the infection rate among the frogs captured from different townships were not significant(2=9.840, P0.05),but the differences were significant among the frogs with different body weight(2=16.570, P0.01). Six snakes were captured, the natural infection rate of S. mansoni was 83.33%. The infection intensity was highest in the snakes from Puyuan township(143 S. mansoni/snake). No infection was found in raised bullfrogs. The awareness rate of sparganosis prevention and control related knowledge in local residents was only 33.47%. Conclusion The infection rate of S. mansoni was high in wild frogs and snakes from Tongxiang, and people's awareness about S. mansoni infection was low. It is necessary to take effective measures, such as health education, for the prevention and control of sparganosis.
