Surveillance for perinatal death in Wenzhou, 2007-2016

  • ObjectiveTo understand the incidence of perinatal death and causes in Wenzhou of Zhejiang province and suggest effective response measure.
MethodsThe incidence data of perinatal death in Wenzhou from 2007 to 2016 were analyzed, which were reported by hospitals monthly according to the surveillance protocol of perinatal death in Zhejiang.
ResultsIn the past 10 years, the perinatal mortality rate showed a decline trend (treadχ2=201.174, P=0.000). Except for 2008, the perinatal mortality rate in floating population was significantly higher than that in local population (P<0.05). The top five causes of perinatal death were birth defect, unknown causes, premature birth, neonatal asphyxia and gestational hypertension.
ConclusionThe overall perinatal mortality rate showed a decline trend in Wenzhou during 2007−2016. The first cause of perinatal death was birth defect and premature birth was the major cause of perinatal death. It is necessary to strengthen the prevention and control of birth defect to reduce perinatal death and improve perinatal care to reduce pregnancy complication and premature birth.
