Surveillance for high risk-pregnant women in hospitals in Guangxi, 2012–2019

  • ObjectiveTo understand the characteristics of incidences of pregnancy related complications, critical illness and deaths in pregnant women hospitalized in high risk-pregnant women surveillance hospitals in Guangxi from 2012 to 2019 and the changes before and after the implementation of the two child policy, and provide evidence to strengthen the construction of obstetrics department, improve perinatal care quality and protect pregnant women and newborns.
    MethodsAccording to “National protocol of hospital surveillance for high risk-pregnant women”, the descriptive and statistical analyses were conducted on the incidence data of pregnancy related complications, critical illness and the information about perinatal care and delivery in 21 high risk-pregnant women surveillance hospitals in Guangxi from 2012 to 2019, which were collected from national hospital surveillance system of high risk-pregnant women.
    ResultsFrom 2012 to 2019, a total of 565 852 pregnant women were hospitalized in 21 high risk-pregnant women surveillance hospitals in Guangxi, in whom 533 293 were delivered of babies. The average age of hospitalized pregnant women increased year by year, and the proportions of older pregnant women, multipara, and the pregnant women affected by pregnancy related complications and critically illness increased year by year. Maternal mortality index decreased year by year, the death rate of critical illness and the incidence rate of severe maternal outcomes increased variably, and the incidence rate of scar uterus increased year by year.
    ConclusionThe proportions of older pregnant women and multipara and the incidences of scar uterus and pregnancy related complications increased with year in Guangxi. It is necessary to strengthen the construction of obstetrics department and improve perinatal care quality to protect pregnant women and newborns.
