Construction and improvement of emergency response capability for poisoning events in China

  • ObjectiveTo evaluate the performance in capability-building in the emergency response to poisoning events in China since 2000.
    MethodsAn analysis was conducted on the progress in capability-building in the emergency response to poisoning events in China in terms of system construction, poisoning response techniques and training/experience sharing.
    ResultsThe capability of the emergency response to poisoning events in China has been greatly strengthened through the improvements in system construction, poisoning consultation service and information system, surveillance and risk assessment of poisoning, toxicant test technique and instrument, first aid and diagnosis of poisoning, and related research and technical standard development, which can facilitate the effective response to poisoning, the reduction of case fatality and the protection of people’s health.
    ConclusionAt present, many challenges still exists in the emergency response to poisoning events in China, indicating an urgent need to further strengthen the response capability.
