Epidemiological characteristics of human brucellosis in Dalian, Liaoning, 2014–2019

  •   Objective  To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of human brucellosis in Dalian, Liaoning, from 2014 to 2019, and provide scientific evidence for brucellosis prevention and control.
      Methods  A descriptive analysis was made on the epidemiological characteristics, clinical symptoms and risk factors exposures of brucellosis cases in Dalian from 2014 to 2019.
      Results  A total of 571 cases of brucellosis were reported in Dalian from 2014 to 2019 without death. The annual peak of incidence was from April to July, and the cases were mainly distributed in people aged 35–69 years and most cases were farmers. Infection was mainly caused by direct or indirect contacts with infected animals, mainly sheep. The number of food borne brucellosis cases increased. The most common clinical symptom were fever, excessive sweating, joint and muscle pain.
      Conclusion  The incidence of brucellosis increased year by year in Dalian. The mode of infection varied. It is suggested to strengthen the multidisciplinary mechanism of prevention and control and improve people′s self-protection awareness.
