Response and analysis of 2 brucellosis outbreaks in Pingliang city, Gansu province, 2023

Objective To investigate the outbreaks causes of brucellosis in two natural villages, Huating city and Jingchuan county, Pingliang city, Gansu province in 2023, and provide suggestions for brucellosis prevention and control, providing reference for future prevention and control of such incidents.

Methods Carried out field epidemiological investigation and aboratory detection were used to trace the source and transmission route of the two outbreaks. Descriptive epidemiological method was used to analyze the case investigation and experimental results.

Results  In Huating city, after investigation a total of 4 cases were found, including 3 farmers and 1 student. The onset of the case was from was January 28th to March 27th in 2023. The results showed that 13 domestic sheep were positive for brucellosis. In Jingchuan city, after investigation a total of 3 cases were found, including 2 farmers and 1 student. The onset of the case was from was May 18th to June7th in 2023. The results showed that one domestic cow were positive for brucellosis.

Conclusion  The main cause of the two outbreaks of brucellosis in Pingliang city was the close contact with domestic infected cattle and sheep and their products. It is suggested that we should strengthen the publicity and education of brucellosis in rural areas, especially in breeding retail investors, and improve the awareness of protection of farmers. It is suggested that animal husbandry departments should standardize the transport and quarantine process, joint prevention and control, and jointly safeguard people's health.
