Epidemiological characteristics of tuberculosis in Sichuan during the 13th five-year plan period

  •   Objective   To evaluate the reported incidence and prevention and control effect of tuberculosis (TB) in Sichuan province during the 13th five-year plan period, and provide reference for the key prevention and control points of TB in Sichuan during the 14th five-year plan period.
Methods   The reported incidence data of TB in Sichuan from 2016 to 2020 were collected from the Surveillance System for Infectious Diseases for a descriptive statistical analysis.
Results   From 2016 to 2020, both the number of reported cases and the reported incidence of TB in Sichuan decreased year by year, with an average annual decrease rate of 5.35%. The reported TB incidence in 2020 was 55.19/100 000. The proportion of TB cases with sputum etiological positive results continued to increase, reaching more than 50% in 2020. The number of reported TB cases fluctuated obviously around the Spring Festival period, especially in 2020 with a decrease of 20.76% in February compared with January and an increase of 30.87% in March compared with February. In 2020, the reported incidence of TB in 12 prefectures (municipality)s, including Chengdu, was below 55/100 000, and it was more than 100/100 000 in Garze, Liangshan and Aba autonomous prefectures. From 2016 to 2020, the male to female ratio of the reported TB cases was about 7∶3, and the cases were mainly aged from 15 to 59 years, but the proportion of the TB cases aged less than 15 years old continued to increase. The reported TB cases in students increased by 52.99% in 2020 compared with 2016, and the constituent ratio increased from 5.61% in 2016 to 10.47% in 2020.
Conclusion   During the 13th five-year plan period, the reported incidence of TB and the proportion of TB cases with sputum etiological positive results in Sichuan achieving the goals of TB control. During the 14th five-year plan period, we should continue to further strengthen the management of missing report, and the prevention and control of TB in schools.
