HIV, HCV and TB infection among drug users receiving methadone treatment in Yuhuan county, Zhejiang province

  • Objective To understands the current status and epidemiological characteristics of HIV, hepatitis C (HCV), tuberculosis (TB) infections among drug users receiving methadone treatment in Yuhuan county. Methods The data of 302 drug users receiving methadone treatment in the 1st Peoples Hospital of Yuhuan county from 3 January,2008 to 20 April,2009 and their HIV, HCV, TB test results were analyzed. Results Among the 302 drug users, most were jobless young males. Injecting drug users accounted for 56.70% for the past nearly half year. One hundred two drug users received HIV test,1 was detected to be positive (0.62%),98 drug users received TB test,1 was positive (1.02%); and 165 drugs received HCV test,57 were positive (34.55%). Intravenous drug use might be the risk factors for HCV infection. Conclusion The HIV infection rate among the drug users receiving methadone treatment in Yuhaun remained at lower level, but the HCV infection rate among them was higher than that among the general population in China, the TB infection rate among them was low.
