Mortality of diabetes in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, 2010

Objective To analyze the characteristics of diabetes death in residents in Wenzhou in 2010 and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of diabetes. Methods The analysis was conducted on the data of death cause surveillance in Wenzhou in 2010 to understand its annual mortality of diabetes. The death causes were classified according to "International classification of diseases, 10th edition"(ICD-10)and analyzed by using SPSS 13.0. Results The mortality of diabetes was 15.50/lakh in 2010.The mortality was higher in females(18.83/lakh)than in males(12.43/lakh)and in urban area(19.78/lakh)than in rural area(14.52/lakh). The mortality increased with age. The reported morbidity of diabetes was 167.01/lakh, and the gender specific morbidity was 163.06/lakh in males and 171.30/lakh in females. Conclusion Diabetes has become one of the major death causes in the residents in Wenzhou and the mortality varied between males and females and between urban area and rural area.
