Detection results of HIV voluntary counseling and testing in Hangzhou city in Zhejiang province,2008-2010

  • Objective To understand the socio-demographic characteristics and HIV infection status of people receiving HIV voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) in Hangzhou and provide evidence to improve health education about AIDS and risk behavior intervention. Methods Questionnaire survey and blood sample detection were conducted in 1615 people receiving VCT in Hangzhou CDC from 2008 to 2010. Results Among the 1615 people receiving VCT, the majority were young adults with high education level, and there were more males than females. The positive rate of HIV antibody was 4.28% in 2008, 5.09% in 2009 and 9.95% in 2010. The major transmission route was sexual contact, including sexual contact in MSM. Conclusion It is necessary to strengthen the targeted health education about AIDS prevention/control and risk behavior intervention in high risk populations, such as MSM.
