Abstract
Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of mumps in Zhejiang province.
Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the data of mumps cases and outbreaks from 2005 to 2009.
Results The annual average incidence of mumps was 48.42/lakh and the seasonality of the disease was obvious. The cases mainly occurred in children or adolescents less than 15 years old. Most outbreaks occurred in schools and child care settings.
Conclusion Both the case number and outbreak of mumps declined from 2005 to 2009. It is necessary to promote the use of measles-mumps-rubella combined vaccine, strengthen the mumps surveillance and outbreak response in schools and child care settings and conduct emergency vaccination.
