Epidemiological characteristics of sexually transmitted diseases in high risk population in Hangzhou city

  • Objective To understand the infection status of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among female sex workers (FSWs) and brothel frequenters in Hangzhou from 2008 to 2010. Methods The STD and AIDS detections were conducted among detained FSWs and brothel frequenters in Hangzhou and related information were collected from them to perform epidemiological analysis. Results Among 822 FSWs and brothel frequenters, 570 STD cases were detected, the detection rate was 69.34%. Most cases were mycoplasma infections (400, 70.18%). Among mixed-infection cases, 68 were syphilis and mycoplasma infections, accounting for 11.93%. Conclusion The STD infection rate was high among the FSWs and brothel frequenters in Hangzhou, which would facilitate the spread of STDs. It is necessary to strengthen the epidemiological surveillance in this population to prevent and control STDs.
