Surveillance of injury in community health centers in Huangpu district in Shanghai, 2008-2010

Abstract
Objective To analyze the characteristics of injury in Huangpu district and provide evidence for the prevention and control of injury. Methods The analysis was conducted on the reported injury cases in 6 community health centers in Huangpu. Results A total of 7902 injury cases were included in the analysis. There more female cases were than the male ones. The first 3 injury causes were as follow: falling down (70.80%), non-motor vehicle traffic accident (17.55%) and mechanical force of object/instrument (7.59%). The injuries mainly occurred in home (62.07%) and on road/street (22.72%) in daily life activities (25.31%), recreation activities (23.11%), housework (22.50%), vehicle driving (19.55%). Most injury cases were unintentional (99.73%) and mild ones (99.01%) and mainly occurred between 7 and 10 o'clock am. Conclusion More injuries occurred in females than in males. Falling down, traffic accident and mechanical force of object/instrument were the major injury causes, and most injuries were unintentional and mild.
