Epidemiology of injury cases in hospitals in Cixi, 2010

  • Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of injury cases in sentinel hospitals in Cixi and provide evidence for injury control and prevention. Methods The analysis was conducted on the injury surveillance data collected from 3 sentinel hospitals in Cixi during 1 January and 31 December 2010. Results A total of 46 360 injury cases were reported in 2010. The male to female ratio of the cases was 1.85∶1 and the average age of the cases was 33.318.2 years. The majority of the cases aged 15-44 years (58.00%). The first 3 injury causes were falling down, motor vehicle accident and blunt beating and the first 3 places where injury likely occurred were road/street, residential house and industrial/construction site. Totally 138 cases were fatal, accounting for 0.30%. Conclusion People aged 15-44 years were the high-risk population of injury. Falling down and motor vehicle accident were the main injury causes. It is necessary to conduct targeted injury intervention.
