HIV antibody detection in 286 109 blood donors in Baoji municipality in Shaanxi province

Objective To understand the HIV infection status and trend in blood donors and ensure clinical blood transfusion safety. Methods HIV test was conducted in blood donors by using ELISA, further screening for positive blood samples was conducted to determine the actual infection status. Epidemiological analysis was performed on the detection results. Results The HIV infection rate increased with years in blood donors in Baoji. The infection mainly occurred in males and in floating population. The age of most infected people ranged from 20 to 40 years. Conclusion It is necessary to strengthen the health education about non-remunerated blood donation and AIDS prevention and control, collect blood from low risk population, improve the training of staff on health examination in mobile blood donation station and tell blood donors about the importance of disposal of unsafe blood in secret to encourage the blood donors with potential risk to report their problems.
