Analysis on the first 5 leading injury death causes in residents in Fujian province, 2010

  • Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of injury death in Fujian province and provide evidence for injury prevention and control. Methods The injury death data reported by medical institutions in Fujian or collected through national death cause registering and reporting system were analyzed to understand its geographic distribution and calculate the death rate, standardized death rate and the potential years of life lost (PYLL). Results The standardized injury death rate in males (7.71/lakh) was higher than that in females (3.80/lakh) (χ2= 132.83, Pχ2=275.02, Pr2= 2837.77, P Conclusion Injury was one of the leading death causes in residents in Fujian province, especially the injuries caused by traffic accident, falling down and suicide. It is necessary to conduct appropriate interventions according to the distribution of injury deaths in different areas.
