Causes of injury deaths in residents in Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, 2010

  • Objective To understand the causes of injury deaths among residents in Wenzhou and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of injury. Methods The analysis was conducted on the surveillance data of death in the residents in Wenzhou, which were classified according to International classification of diseases, the 10th edition (ICD-10). Results The incidence of injury death was 46.30/lakh, and the injury deaths accounted for 8.28% of the total deaths, ranking fifth in all deaths but ranking 2nd according to the years of potential life lost (YPLL). The first 4 causes of injury deaths were accidental falling down, traffic accident, suicide and drowning. Conclusion Injury was a major death cause in residents in Wenzhou and was a most critical risk factor of death in youth.
