Abstract: Objective To understand the sex specific characteristics of AIDS related risk behaviors in young students and provide evidence for the targeted intervention in this population. Methods The data of national sentinel surveillance for AIDS in young students during 2010-2013 were collected. The sentinel surveillance for AIDS in young students in Beijing during this period was conducted by means of multi stage clustering sampling to selected 800 subjects at each surveillance site every year. Results The proportion of males having sex behavior (15.1%) was higher than that of females having sex behaviors (12.0%) (χ2=12.9, Pχ2=7.6 for males, Pχ2=10.0 for females, Pχ2=48.6, Pχ2=10.0, Pχ2=19.3, Pχ2=6.6, Pχ2=11.3, Pχ2=10.8 for males, Pχ2=6.2 for females, PConclusion The prevalence of AIDS related risk behaviors varied with sex in young students in Beijing. General and sex specific health education programs should be conducted to improve young students' awareness of protective sex by taking different measures, such as negotiation with sex partner to take protective measures.
